Real Estate Appraisers and Appraisals In
Los Angeles County, City of Vernon
Vernon is a city in
Los Angeles County, California, United States. It has the smallest population
(91 as of the 2000 census) of any incorporated city in California. Most of the
city's land area is occupied by industrial facilities. Vernon was incorporated
to promote industrial development along the railroads in the area. Consisting
almost entirely of warehouses and factories, the city's main industries are
textile manufacturing, metalworking, appraisals, and manufacture of
transportation equipment. The housing is subsidized by the City of Vernon; its
residents are employed within the city limits. Among the multitude of
businesses is Bon Appetit Bakery, whose products are highly visible in many
convenience stores and service stations. In 2005, a controversy arose
concerning a few people who moved in Vernon and ran for city council. This
marked the first time in more than two decades that there was a competitive
race for city council of which the election results are still in dispute.
Assembly member Mervyn M. Dymally has submitted a bill in the California
Legislature in June 2006 that would have the Secretary of State of California
to assume control over its elections. Vernon was home to the Vernon Tigers, a
minor league baseball team in the Pacific Coast League, from 1909 through 1925. |
